Giant squid washes up in Tasmania

11 July 2007

A giant squid measuring around eight metres in length has washed up on a beach in Tasmania. According to reports, it is one of the largest ever found.

A team of experts, led by Tasmanian Museum senior curator Genefor Walker-Smith, is examining the monster, which is normally only found in the deep ocean.

‘It's a whopper,’ said Walker-Smith, according to Reuters. ‘The main mantle is about one metre across and its total length is about eight metres.’

See the Reuters report.
